Hosting Season Cleaning Tips
We were so excited to share some of our top cleaning tips for hosting season live on Channel Nine’s Today Show. Unfortunately, our segment was cancelled at the last minute due to breaking news. While we didn’t make it on air, we didn’t want to leave you hanging! Our Director and Founder, Simone, had some fantastic insights prepared to help you get your home ready for hosting season, stress-free and sparkling. Here are the tips and tricks she was going to share.
1. Start with Preparation to Avoid Stress
“The best way to start is by preparing in advance. Create a list of everything you need to clean a few weeks before your guests arrive. This helps you tackle tasks step by step. From there, make a cleaning schedule so you’re not trying to do everything at once. Also, decluttering is key—before putting up decorations or setting up guest spaces, clear out anything you no longer need. It’s a great time to donate or store items, creating more space and making cleaning much easier.”
2. Focus on High-Use Areas
“Guests won’t be exploring every corner of your home, so focus your cleaning efforts on the spaces they’ll actually use. Prioritise the living room, dining area, bathroom, and entryway—these are the high-traffic zones that make the biggest impression. If you’re short on time, skip the bedrooms and other less-used areas.”
3. Must-Do Tasks on the Day Guests Arrive
“The kitchen is often the heart of any gathering, so start by decluttering and cleaning the fridge. This makes space for party platters, leftovers, and drinks. Next, set up zones, like a drink station or even an esky, so guests can help themselves without crowding the kitchen. This keeps things organised and ensures everyone feels comfortable.”
4. Stay Ahead of the Mess During the Gathering
“Once your guests arrive, keep things manageable with small, consistent actions. Clear plates, rinse glasses, and run the dishwasher throughout the event. These little efforts prevent chaos and ensure you’re not left with a mountain of work at the end of the night.”
5. Don’t Forget to Relax
“A calm host sets the tone for the entire gathering. Take some time to relax, freshen up, and enjoy the moment before your guests arrive. Remember, they’re there for your company, not to inspect your cleaning skills. Simplify where you can, let go of perfection, and focus on creating meaningful connections. And if it feels overwhelming, outsourcing to a professional cleaning service can take the pressure off so you can focus on what really matters.”
